Zola-1536x1024Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola, believes the left-forward position is best for Timo Werner in manager Thomas Tuchel’s squad because the qualities he has is good in a wide area.

Zola said this ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against West Brom on Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Werner joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig last summer for £47.5 million.

The Germany international scored 28 Bundesliga goals last season and hit double figures in each of his four seasons at Leipzig.

But since his arrival at Chelsea, Werner has only managed to score just five goals in the Premier League and has just one in his last 20 appearances for the Bleus.

The 25-year-old also missed an open goal in Germany’s 2-1 World Cup qualifier defeat against North Macedonia earlier this week, and Zola believes the player will turn things around.
“I believe he’s connecting to the team more and more and doing his job anyway and will get better on the left or in the middle,” Zola told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“Sometimes he’s been effective on the left because those qualities he has are good in a wide area. He’s on that in the international team as well.

“It’s about settling in the country more and getting used to the way we play, and he will get better.”
